We admit that at LegalMasters.bg, often even when we relax, we tend to stay within the realm of law. That is why we have watched many lawyers’ series, tickling our professional curiosity.
So, we decided to share five lawyers’ series we consider valuable television production, but also a good representation of our profession, albeit in a different legal system from the one in Bulgaria.
1. The Good Wife/The Good Fight
One of the main things that “The Good Wife” grabbed our attention with was the realistic portrayal of the human side of our profession. Unlike many other screen depictions where lawyers are heartless gold diggers, in “The Good Wife,” you can see vividly how much they might care about clients and their fates when taking on a specific case.
Another key element is the approach of Alicia Florrick (played by Julianna Margulies). Even in the most tense situations, when her colleagues are shouting and accusing each other, she maintains order with the words, “Okay, okay, the fact is, we are in this situation; what can we do about it?”
We believe this is a good philosophy not only when we are on our professional road, but also in our personal life.
Our feelings towards the so-called spin-off (branching of the story into a separate series) of “The Good Wife” – “The Good Fight are similar.” Although without Alicia Florrick, her former colleagues managed to show the legal profession with all its nuances. The script is realistic, topical, engaging, and significantly more politically charged.
2. Suits

We recognize that at the heart of Suits lies a legally problematic history about the non-graduated young man Mike Ross, who is hired by the super-successful industry veteran Harvey Spector as his assistant.
Even this story brings a dose of realism because, in our field, everyone has ever wished to be the brilliant student who gets noticed by the brilliant lawyer and eventually becomes that brilliant lawyer themselves.
The lifestyle shown in “Suits” is not typical for Bulgarians but also for most Americans. But it reveals another key part of the reality of our profession.
In the series, the main characters often demonstrate how a good legal mind can formulate bold and skilled strategies to help the client.
As we have mentioned on our Facebook page, at LegalMasters.bg, we prefer and seek for real challenges and complicated cases, rather than conventional and easy tasks.
3. The Night Of

HBO’s mini-series “The Night Of” consists of just 8 episodes. This does not prevent it from fully immersing us in its atmosphere and the case at hand.
In it, college student Riz Ahmed wakes up to find himself accused of murder.
At its core, the series shows the pursuit of truth and how institutional flaws and human nature can prevent the truth from coming out.
Although the revealed flaws in the justice system refer to institutions in the USA, the universal in “The Night Of” is the special bond between lawyer and client.
4. Better Call Saul

As you can see, we at LegalMasters.bg don’t mind spin-offs of good series. That’s why we have excitedly watched the Breaking Bad offshoot Call Saul.”
Something key from the beginning of every lawyer’s career that the series shows is the dogged work, the so-called all-day “grinding”.
There are quite a few solo practitioners and small firms in our field. Their mission is usually clear: to help. This often means standing up against big organizations that can drown them in documentation. Many lawyers are familiar with the conflict between the heart and the wallet.
And last but not least, the series is funny, full of little inside jokes about the profession that people with this education appreciate highly.
5. The Practice/Boston Legal

Although we are not among the big fans of “Ally McBeal,” we gave its creator David E. Kelley a chance in his new venture – “The Practice.” From the very beginning, it is clear that Kelley has invested much more realism into it. It’s no coincidence that the series got a full eight seasons.
Yes, the cases themselves are additionally dramatized, but the procedures and approach to the cases are more realistic than almost all other legal series. And here, similar to “Better Call Saul,” a small private practice is depicted. The daily battles of the lawyers working there and the far “dustier” side of the job are shown.
This series is also not behind in terms of spin-offs. Not long after, the equally good “Boston Lawyers” was born, which in turn has 5 seasons.
Here even the court cases themselves are an idea closer to reality and the relationships between the lawyers are well portrayed. The series has all the components of the real work of a modern lawyer.
