At LegalMasters.bg, we understand that hiring an attorney may seem like a serious endeavour with unknown financial implications for the client. That is why we are firmly committed to assisting every visitor to make a more informed decision when using legal services and to calculate how a consultation or legal action will impact their budget—sometimes by a positive surprise.
This led to the idea and further implementation of free online calculators to estimate the fees and expenses associated with various legal actions.
In this series, our team will introduce different calculators to you that can benefit clients and fellow attorneys in calculating projected fees and expenses in their daily work.
Part III: Notarial Fees and Expenses
In this section, there are two Calculators: 1. for notarial fees for attestation of powers of attorney, and 2. for notarial fees for transactions.
Since notaries are usually registered under the VAT Act, the calculators also include VAT for notarial services.
1. Calculator for Notarial Fee for Attestation of Powers of Attorney
This calculator computes the payable fee for attesting powers of attorney and other private documents such as declarations, statements, etc.

For this calculator, it is important whether the power of attorney grants rights to deal with real estate and whether a material interest is specified in the document. In this case, the material interest is the value of the future transaction that the person will be authorized to perform on behalf of the authorizer.
It is important to note that when attesting a power of attorney regarding rights to deal with real estate, there are additional fees for certifying declarations. These are submitted during the transaction along with the power of attorney.
2. Calculator for Notarial Fees for Transactions
The second calculator in this category computes the notarial fee and other expenses related to the conclusion of transactions before a notary — local tax and transaction registration fee regarding twelve Bulgarian cities, namely: Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse, Pleven, Vratsa, Stara Zagora, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Veliko Tarnovo, Blagoevgrad.

Firstly, you should specify the type of transaction and in which city it is taking place. The latter matters for the amount of the local tax for the transaction.
Next, you should enter the amount of the material interest. This is the value of the future transaction, which will be stated in the notarial act (contract).
It is also important to consider that in some cases, fees are calculated on other values. For example, in cases of donations – on the tax assessment or the credit/loan amount for mortgages. If the amount of the tax assessment document is higher than the one of the market price, the fee is calculated on the higher value.
Important! The specific notary providing services may, at their discretion, charge additional fees according to the particular case and the characteristics of the transaction.
